I am Arman Begoyan, a psychologist (PsySD) and psychotherapist holding the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP). I provide individual, couples and family psychotherapy in person in Yerevan, as well as online.

My work is structured, evidence-based and primarily grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Depending on the individual problem and clinical assessment, I also integrate other evidence-based approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

The aim of psychotherapy is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to understand the cognitive, emotional and behavioural mechanisms that maintain a problem and work toward meaningful, sustainable change.

Areas of clinical focus

I work primarily with adults experiencing:

  • Anxiety disorders — generalized anxiety, panic attacks and panic disorder, social anxiety, agoraphobia, fears and phobias;
  • Obsessive-compulsive symptoms and OCD;
  • Stress, psychological trauma and PTSD;
  • Depressive symptoms and depressive disorders;
  • Anger and emotional regulation difficulties;
  • Gambling disorder and problematic gambling;
  • Relationship and interpersonal difficulties;
  • persistent overthinking, avoidance and difficulties tolerating uncertainty.

Different people may experience similar symptoms for very different reasons. For this reason, psychotherapy begins with an individual assessment rather than the automatic application of the same techniques to everyone.

My approach to psychotherapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the main framework of my clinical practice.

CBT examines how interpretations, beliefs, emotional and physiological responses, and patterns of behaviour interact and may contribute to maintaining psychological difficulties.

A simplified model can be represented as:

situation → interpretation → emotional and bodily response → behaviour → consequences

Therapeutic work may include cognitive analysis, behavioural experiments, exposure, development of emotional-regulation skills, changes in avoidance and safety behaviours, and other interventions selected according to the individual case.

Where appropriate, EMDR and other evidence-based methods may also be incorporated.

Professional background

In addition to clinical practice, I work as a supervisor and trainer and have longstanding academic and professional interests in clinical psychology, psychotherapy, cognitive science and neuroscience.

I am an International Affiliate of the American Psychological Association, a full member of the Polish Federation for Psychotherapy, Co-Founder of the EMDR Psychoterapists’ Association of Armenia, Vice-President and Co-Founder of the Armenian Scientific-Educational Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ArSEA CBT), and Chief Specialist at Hilfmann Psychological Services.

My research interests include the neurobiology and psychotherapy of anxiety disorders, gambling disorder, anger regulation, cognitive systems, and the integration of CBT with neuroscience.
