On March 11, I had the opportunity to deliver a specialized workshop at the European University of Armenia, focusing on the neurobiological foundations and psychotherapeutic approaches to gambling disorder.
The workshop explored the underlying mechanisms of addiction from a neuroscience perspective, including reward system dysregulation, dopaminergic pathways, reinforcement learning, and cognitive distortions that sustain maladaptive gambling behavior. Particular attention was given to the integration of evidence-based approaches, primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), alongside insights from neuroscience to enhance treatment effectiveness.
We also discussed practical therapeutic strategies for assessment, case conceptualization, and intervention, with an emphasis on translating theoretical knowledge into clinical practice.
It was a pleasure to engage with participants in a thoughtful and dynamic discussion, reflecting a growing interest in the integration of neuroscience and psychotherapy within the Armenian professional community.
